 Over 30 Years of Experience in Metal Finishing and NDT

My career in the metal finishing industry began at the age of 19, when I started working as a Quality Controller for an anodising company in Laneshawbridge. My role involved inspecting anodised components and ensuring they met the required quality standards. During this time, I also gained a Diploma in Manufacturing Practice, building a strong foundation in manufacturing processes and quality control.

As my experience grew, I became a director within my father's company before taking the next step and establishing my own business, specialising in anodising finishes and colours. Over the following 13 years, the company supplied a wide range of finishes to customers across various industries, including military, subsea and motorsport.

After stepping down from the business, I continued to use my knowledge and experience to help engineering companies establish their own in-house metal finishing facilities. This included setting up anodising plants to enable manufacturers to finish their own components and gain greater control over their production processes.

I was subsequently approached by an aerospace company to help establish and bring an in-house anodising plant into operation. Following a company takeover, the commercial anodising operation became redundant, leading to the next stage of my career.

I was then approached by an NDT company to establish an anodising plant alongside its existing Non-Destructive Testing operations. Once the plant was fully operational and regular work had been established, Craven Surface Treatments was born.

Craven Surface Treatments Today

Three years on, Craven Surface Treatments continues to build on decades of practical experience in metal finishing, manufacturing, and quality control.

Alongside running the anodising operation, I also hold PCN Level 2 certification in Penetrant Testing, combining my knowledge of surface treatments with specialist Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection skills.

My background gives me a hands-on understanding of the challenges faced by manufacturers and the importance of consistent quality, attention to detail and meeting customer requirements.
